Slows is a well-known barbecue restaurant in Detroit. They asked my company to design a line of apparel to sell at their original Corktown location.

I took some liberty with color by punching up their more subdued reds and yellows with a more ketchup and mustard color palette. I thought the reference to barbecue condiments would be clever, and also it’s much easier to acquire garments with more traditional colorways than ones specific to a particular company’s Pantone colors.

The designs themselves incorporate text that either feels like a classic BBQ spot, or like something out of a local yellow page advertisement with an address and phone number.

Some of the hand-drawn imagery like the big black outdoor grill, and the stacked-up burger are also meant to convey a local, authentic feeling that is typically desirable for an establishment like SLOWS.
